As a long time foodie that owns literally hundreds of cookbooks my friends seriously questioned why I spent money on another cookbook My reasoning was that I ve learned over a couple of decades that I can totally trust ATK and or Christofer Kimball s recipes and I was tired of wasting food and or grabbing unhealthy fast food after trying unsuccessfully to adjust to a single person home after almost 40 years I just thought that if this book didn t provide the information I was looking for I would [...]

I received this yesterday and read through all of it skimming recipes themselves It addresses the biggest problems I have had cooking for myself including leftovers getting boring after several days, wasting ingredients that I can t buy in small enough portions, and knowing what to keep for longer periods of time and how to store it Every recipe in this book is one serving, but they note each one that reheats well so that you can make if desired Each recipe also has variations, in case you want [...]

Bought this book in hopes of finding smaller gourmet versions of recipes This book has many including carbonara which is tough to do in small portions I have noted so far that the list of equipment leaves out the 12 inch Non Stick Skillet with Lid that is called for in several recipes It recommends a smaller skillet e.g 8 in or 10 in but at least three recipes suggest a 12 in non stick with a lid One of these recipes is the carbonara which, given the proportions, could be made in a 10 in with a [...]

I m not sure whether I m going to keep this book or not The nutritional data is given at the back of the book by ingredient instead of in the recipe itself although the ingredient list is not a complete list of everything that was used and is lacking potassium values which is required on product labels The other problem is that it s cooking for one but than half the recipes indicate makes leftovers OK but there is no information about what constitutes one serving so you ll know how much leftover [...]

There are some good recipes in this book, but by and large the claim that this is Cooking for One is misleading Many recipes it felt like over half of them although I ve not gone through and counted state openly that they have leftovers in other words they serve than one They won t tell you how many they actually do serve, though, so you can t scale the recipe accordingly, except by educated guesswork And some of the recipes that do serve one are a little obvious how to cook a steak, for example [...]


    7. Excellent book for those leaving home for the first time and not wanting to just survive on beans on toast all the time.Excellent partner to American Test Kitchen s Cookery School Book.
