  1. Yikes, this book was hard to get through Super Cro Magnons Ayla and Jondalar leave their happy situation with the Mamutoi in quest of Jondalar s people, the Zelandoni, which involves traveling all across prehistoric Europe If you don t understand what I just said, you are obviously not familiar with the series at all and should stop reading this review, since it is about book 5 in a long long series If an epic journey across ice age Europe sounds like an interesting novel, look elsewhere or writ [...]

  2. The first three books in this series are solid, excellent books Jean Auel is a good writer but a much better researcher, and now that it s come to the 4th installment of the series, it really shows The hunting, toolmaking, and survival skills are all fascinating and well described, you can tell Auel really tried some of things out for herself, but the plot, unfortunately, isn t as strong. It s one thing to have put in some backstory from the previous novels in a series to reacquaint people with t [...]

  3. This whole series is so unusual, and compelling Actually I liked books 1 through 3 better than this one, but I still would not have missed this one and it sets it up for a really good book 5 Much of this book occurs in travel between cave villages with much description of flora, fauna, landscapes, etc which I did not enjoy as much as the interactions But there were memorable village visits, and I love how different each experience is and how much we learn about our intrepid travelers from each s [...]

  4. Having recently reread the first three volumes in the Earth s Children saga, I learned of the last three and ordered them all Eagerly awaiting their arrival, I then read reviews This volume was out of print, so I m reading it last Having started it, I ve put it down, not because I already know what s going to happen, but because, as with the sequels, it is tedious It seems unlikely that anyone would begin here, but many prior events are often revisited and descriptive material, concerning plants [...]

  5. The worst of the series This book is basically a prehistoric sex book There s just so little substance to the book Ayla is beautiful Jondalar doesn t believe how babies are madeor does he More booty calls Lots of details about flora and fauna More than you ever wanted to knowmultiple times. This is the first time I ve re read the book in almost 30 years and it was so hard to read this time Ugh.

  6. I Love the Valley of the Horses, the Mammoth Hunters and the Plains of Passage To me, they are best three books ever Ayla and Jondalar kept me company through many rough patches in life from Middle School to middle age I STRONGLY DISLIKE THE NEW COVERS i only ordered this book because the cover shown is the original GOOD ONE with Ayla, Jondalar, Whinney and Wolf I would leave a negative 10 stars for recieving something that was NOT pictured It s false advertisement and sheer laziness on the sell [...]

  7. I LOVE this seriessuch riveting tales of prehistoric man Jean Auel is SUCH an amazing author, she makes her characters come to life, and so interesting This is my second time through the series, the first time in paperbacks I had to buy a booklight so I could keep reading late into the night I couldn t put the book down Not kidding at all These days I have a Kindle Fire and a tablet so I have a built in booklight Every bit as good second time around Make sure you start with Clan of the Cave Bear [...]

  8. The narrative part of the story made up for the interminable description of Ice Age Europe and the plants and herbs and mountain ranges The descriptive part of the animal life was fairly interesting but again it did go on The book could have been cut down by half if the over explanation of plants and their qualities were cut out I found myself flipping over pages and pages to get to the dramatic narrative which was good Obviously a description of the world they are travelling through is interest [...]

  9. Hooked first time round and rereading the whole series again for the fourth or fifth time.History, romance, drama, cooking, herbs and medicine, animals, nature, family dynamics, spirituality and so much.I m an avid reader and was living in the Australian Bush 2000 with a bookcase full and this was one of the last books I picked up the title didn t appeal but I was desperate for something to read.Once I picked up the first one I couldn t put it down and had to read all 5 I remember putting down t [...]
