  2. The main character, Jewel, has returned home to her small town, having inherited a cozy little house from her late aunt Jewel has a teenage son and is caring for Michael, her beloved and very ill friend The three of them move in, placing Jewel in the middle of her big Italian family, and within hate glaring range of her still angry, estranged father This story explores how she fits back in, how her son develops, how Michael does over time, and the budding relationship between Jewel and Michael s [...]

  3. Very nice read about family dynamics and choices a young adult Jewel Sabatino made, which set into motion a truck load of events Jewel s father disowned her after she fled her small town Colorado home and hooked up with a troubled, addicted young and upcoming rock star, who soon became the father to her son Years later, she is forced to return home, broke, with her loving but rebellious teenage son and her best friend dying from the effects of Aids Soon her friend Michael s brother Malachi enter [...]

  4. I bought this book because I had just read When we believed in Mermaids and wanted to read another novel by Barbara O Neal I could not put down When we Believed in Mermaids But this novel is a fairly predictable love story A lonely single mother moves back to her home town with her best gay friend who is unfortunately dying of Aids She is from a big Italian American family and her father never forgave her for running off with her boyfriend a musician at age 17, who is the father of her child, an [...]

  5. Loved this book so much Every bit of the story was so rich, and Michael was the binding glue for me Even when I wasn t reading it, I was thinking about all the characters There were a few places in the book that I sobbed through It doesn t happen very often that a book touches me so much The best book I ve read in quite a few years.

  6. It has been a long time since I ve read a book that I enjoyed so much I connected with the characters and truly cared about each of them The book was well written and the story was excellent I recommend this book.

  7. This is the first of this author s book that I have read She writes beautifully about a daughter seeking acceptance, and forgiveness after she had disappointed her very traditional and old fashioned father by riding off with a man.The story begins 20year later when she returns home with her best friend who is dying Their friendship and love for each other form the backdrop of this heartwarming story Sparks fly when the brother of said best friend who is free spirited arrives Will he stay or will [...]

  8. Wonderful novel Telling of a woman search her self discovery and love She goes from feeling that she doesn t belong anywhere to discovering that maybe there is a place for her in this world after all She hangs her heart out on a limb and waits to see if it gets blown away in the storm or not.

  9. This is the second book I ve read by this author The story is about Jewel who has returned to her family town after being estranged for years She brings with her her best friend Michael who is dying and her 17 year old son I loved the way the author draws you in and made me wish I d been part of a large caring family Lots of references to food and sex Was beautifully written and would make a great film.

  10. Nothing this author produces disappoints and this is no exception It made me laugh, it made me cry, but best of all it made me involved it was a book that will say with me for a long time and one that in the fullness of time I will read again and one that I will thoroughly enjoy again, Every time I read a book written by this lady it simply makes me hungry for another by the same author.
