  1. The first third of this book was great, but by the second half of the book, the author lost me The story starts out with a pandemic that threatens the world But by the second half, we re into a world wide conspiracy with secret islands, submarines, and a mysterious machine or whatever it is that will save humanity If you could accept all the weirdness in the TV show, Lost, then you ll probably love this book But I am done I gave up reading it 70% through.

  2. I actually started reading this book when I was about half way through the audio book version of Dan Brown s Inferno so these two books will forever be linked to me Both involve a main character waking up in a strange place with amnesia and a worldwide pandemic looming They also involve a secret society with the goal of fixing the human race The big difference, though, is that Mr Brown knew exactly what kind of novel he was writing from page one a thriller I enjoyed Inferno much better for its f [...]

  3. The story tends to plod along Elliott, who worked for the CDC, became infected by his wife, yet has his children travel to stay with them, has neighbors come over for lengthy discussions, goes to Costco for a shopping spree, spends time at a dealership buying motor homes, etc Really The author is, for the most part, well written, apart from the overuse of the word, that, and close to 500 metaphorical phrases, which are about 500 metaphorical phrases too many, accounting for much of his word and [...]

  4. While I read than I used to, I m not a regular consumer of fiction series So when I saw how long this book is, I feared maybe I had gotten in over my head in the sense it might take me a month or to finish it which never has the same effect I finished this book in about four days That is testament to the interesting nature of the suspense the author creates, and to some of the character development as well I don t know how long the second book will be but I am already looking forward to it.WHAT [...]

  5. Oh boy, where to start This has to be one of the most frustrating, confusing, far fetched books I ve read.It starts out well especially given the COVID 19 pandemic, but swiftly breaks down to farce spoiler alert Those supposed to be dead aren t, those on the side of good are actually on the side of evil pretending to be on the side of good, but wait, they are pretending to be good but are on the side of evil wait, they are actually the good guys.I think. The bad guys aren t actually bad, just mis [...]

  6. As others have noted this started off pretty well and slid down hill badly And once it got started there was no stopping it For those of us who are medical and or biology minded there are a lot of errors that are distracting There are also so many side plots that they bog down the entire story and the author is trying desperately to make every tiny thing significant To the point it s heavy handed and shoved down your throat Nearly none of the characters were sympathetic after a while and I didn [...]

  7. This book starts promisingly, but then quickly passes through ridiculous on the way to becoming laughable The plot is nonsensical, and relies heavily on unbelievable coincidences to try to tease out as many twists and surprises as possible However, after about the second reveal almost all of which revolve around the same idea I just found myself rolling my eyes and thinking, oh, come on I got the impression the author wanted to write a book with lots of twists and turns Unfortunately, Pandemic o [...]

  8. By the time I was 70% of the way through this book, I was set on giving it a full five stars, so it s a shame that it all went slightly awry towards the end.First, the good stuff Well, the depth and level of research absolutely shines through and, in a book as centered on science as this is, that s important The scenes of dealing with a horrendous global pandemic ring with authenticity and make for gripping reading The literary device of having a main character with no memory is intriguing at fi [...]
