  1. I didn t know this book was a series when I read it The good news is that it s a great book and I m glad there will be The bad news is I read it when it first came out, so now I m stuck waiting at least six months to a year for the next one The story was engaging and the characters impossible not to love My only complaint was the author s decision to make the ghost scary and mean, which in turn made Xanthe frightened and desperate I d have loved to have seen her to stand up to the ghost, or at l [...]

  2. I ve enjoyed many of Paula Brackston s books and this one didn t disappoint Everything from the setting England to the magic of antiques and the promise of old stories they can tell, throw in a bit of romance, and it is a book that I can t put down I enjoyed the descriptions of the manor, of the people in both time periods, and most of all Xanthe s unique personality Knowing that this is the beginning of a new series is wonderful, but at the same time annoying because I have to wait for the next [...]

  3. I just plain loved it What was it that I loved It plunged me back to a prior era, 1605 to be exact, and I immersed myself in a very magical and romantic tale that took me away from today s news and problems The author has a great imagination and created very realistic characters I did not want to put the book down However, when I started reading it I thought I had read enough of time travel tales and the book seemed different from what I imagined it would be like It took me awhile to rid myself [...]

  4. The Little Shop of Found Things was a nice read I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters It was a bit slow in some areas but there were many areas of high anticipation that kept me hooked through the whole novel Paula Brackston has done a fine job of intertwining the present and the past I loved getting to know Xanthe, Flora, and Samuel Most of all I look forward to finding out what happens next with these characters in Brackston s latest book series I gave The Little Shop of Found [...]

  5. There were times during the reading of this story that I became exasperated with Xanthe She pulled some bone headed moves worthy of a damsel in distress or bubble headed blonde no offense to the blondes out there I kept thinking I wasn t going to make it throughbut the story was intriguing I actually finished it sitting in the doctor s office and groaned loudly at the end So loudly, the nurse came in to see if I was OK I actually TRULY enjoyed it, My only true criticism is how it ended I thought [...]

  6. I really enjoyed this story Xanthe has always had the ability to sense an objects history just by touching it Objects with special paths sing to her to unravel their mysteries She and her recently divorced and ailing mother, Flora, are opening an antique shop in their new city of Marlborough They attend an auction at an old manor to find objects to stock the shop with A chatelaine grabs Xanthe s attention and she buys it On their arrival home, an ominous spirit threatens to harm her mother if sh [...]

  7. Xanthe and mother Flora leave London to open a antique shop in Marlborough A very small town where visitors come to shop for artifact and antiques Flora is not well, but leaving her husband and dealing with frozen bank accounts, she is looking forward to a new life Xanthe has suffered from a drug addicted ex boyfriend that landed her in jail and made her unwilling to sing again.Xanthe is gifted with psychometry, sometimes an antique sings to her, and she wants to find out my about the item A cha [...]

  8. It s trite and slow and the characters are unoriginal Lots of missed opportunities to make this a decent story Seems very forced.

  9. I ve read all of Paula Brackston s previous novels and this is one of her best It s a lovely story, Xanthe is such a good character and I love the descriptions of the town and the shop I am pleased that there will be a sequel.Although it doesn t detract from the story, the book is riddled with errors and I am surprised that none of the other reviewers have mentioned this You don t have a whole in your pocket or ride pinion on a motorcycle and the desk they had kept as our counter makes no sense [...]

  10. The idea of this book sounded enchanting so I bought it on a whim I hated it, it bored the life out of me, I got a third of the way in and was so disheartened by how awful and slow the story line was, I did not feel a connection with any of the characters, it is a clumsy, long drawn out book, it was donated to the charity shop only because I hate to throw books away You may of course enjoy it, but I would not recommend this book at all.
