  1. I m surprised at those reviews that say there is a hint of or some romance in Bk 3 of the Wrexford Sloane series It seemed to me there was quite a lot of romance in this, which detracted from the rather Gothic mystery I still don t especially like how the romance is being handled, either It s much less smooth than C S Harris St Cyr series or Kate Ross Julian Kestrel books.Of the three W S books I found this the least satisfying I m never fond of the cliche of a villain afflicted with insanity, a [...]

  2. The first Wrexford and Sloane book was quite enjoyable, the second, pretty good, this third, however, was truly dismal Far too much philosophy, with frequent intrusion of Latin quotes each immediately translated we get it Sloane is educated The secret revealed about Sloane s history, and her terrible dilemma are so pedestrian as to be laughable And the murder plot is so convoluted that by its end one hardly cares whodunit.

  3. An absolute joy to read As always the mystery at the heart of the book is well crafted and engages the reader completely While the perpetrator is identifiable fairly early on, the why and how are the truly fascinating parts and these questions aren t answered until the end In addition there are wonderful characters, a romance that s coming on slowly and an unexpected change in the life of one of the protagonists which combine to make this a stellar read.

  4. This third book in the Wexford and Sloane series is just as interesting and fast paced as the earlier entries Love the Regency period and so enjoyed Ms Penrose s ability to weave historical events into her stories Of course the characters are quite the characters and I love how everyone has a role to play that surpasses expectations Not to mention the slow development of Wexford and Sloane s logical then romantic relationship Looking forward to the next installment P.S my husband enjoyed the ser [...]

  5. Another gruesome murder has occurred in London and this time an aristocrat was stabbed at Kensington Palace The news alarms Lady Charlotte Sloane deeply once she learns the identity of the victim he was a very dear childhood friend She soon enlists the aide of Lord Wrexford to collect clues and evidence in this case because she knows the killer cannot be the man chargedthe twin brother of the victim Charlotte soon realizes that she must return to Society and enter the world of the ton to observe [...]

  6. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, Love this series Nothing gets to me quicker than a sense of family loyalty, especially when there is no blood relationship The murders these completely opposite main characters get into are complicated and the action keeps the readers on the edge of their seats NEVER, ever underestimate the urchins or the single women Both will show you up faster than you could blink Frankly, I love seeing this self righteous, priggy, 1800 s men getting their noses rubbed in the pig manu [...]

  7. 3rd in the series and the best so far in my opinion This is a series and not a stand alone book, you do need to read the other two first to understand the characters etc In book 2 Charlotte Slone revealed who she really was, which of course made it convenient for a relationship between her and the Earl of Wrexford In this book Charlotte and Wrexford are increasingly awkward around one another as neither wants to really admit their feelings to one another and when ever an opportunity arises to do [...]

  8. I found W S as a free books and could not wait for the next this one so pre ordered as soon as I saw it Just love the way the author uses the emerging science of the era and links the social s of the day with the political social commentator of the day That is the Earl Wrexford and the Staterist Sloane as the murder investigators Recommend starting with book one and following the theme that threads its way through all 3 books Can not wait for the next.
